AOL Opens Jacksonville Call Center

America Online opened an $18 million call center this month in Jacksonville, FL, near the University of North Florida campus.

The center will employ 1,900 people when fully staffed and has the capacity to handle 85,000 calls a day. AOL said it expects the location near a university to help recruiting efforts.

AOL, a division of New York-based AOL Time Warner, first opened a call center with 100 employees in Jacksonville six years ago in a refurbished warehouse. The company considered moving its call center to a different city when it decided to expand but ended up staying and building a bigger facility.

The new facility will provide inbound service and support for AOL customers.
