Animated Video Ads to go Mobile

Wireless media company Vert Inc. has found a new space for marketers to tout their wares: on the tops of taxis.

The company said that the fully-animated video ads will start appearing in January, first in Boston and then eventually in other, as yet unnamed cities.

The ads will update continually as the cabs move around city streets. Vert, Somerville, MA, uses a global positioning system to determine how the ads will run, allowing advertisers to target messages down to specific neighborhoods.

A wireless Internet connection delivers the ad content in real time, and offers live weather and stock market quotes.

Internet portal Lycos is the first to advertise through Vert's taxi-tops. Boston ad agency Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos created 12 animated ads for Lycos to be used on the video displays.
