AmEx Set to Launch Blue for Business

American Express is expected to promote the launch of its Blue for Business credit card today with an endorsement from former basketball star Earvin "Magic" Johnson.

The card, which incorporates both a smart chip and a magnetic stripe for use as a traditional credit card, will include some features to help small businesses launch and grow their businesses. The new card follows the New York company's introduction of its Blue credit card for consumers, which has been one of the most successful marketing efforts for smart-chip technology in the United States.

Like the consumer card, the Blue for Business card is being positioned as a tool for participating in the e-commerce economy.

To launch the card, Johnson will discuss the launch of his e-commerce business, UrbanMagic.com, in a live cybercast at www.americanexpress.com/blueforbusiness at 7 p.m. American Express also said it would launch a contest called "E-magine with Blue for Business" that will award 100 small business owners with a free Web site set up. Those e-commerce companies will compete for $100,000 in cash.
