American Diabetes Association Wins DMA Nonprofit of the Year Award

NEW YORK -- The Direct Marketing Association Nonprofit Federation named the American Diabetes Association as its 2006 Nonprofit Organization of the Year.

The award was presented last week at the DMA's annual New York Nonprofit Conference.

This is the 19th year that the DMA Nonprofit Federation has given the award at its New York conference. Previous winners include CARE, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Easter Seals, Special Olympics and Catholic Relief Services.

Nearly 21 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes and an estimated 54 million more Americans have pre-diabetes symptoms. The American Diabetes Association works to find a cure for diabetes and also provides support for the prevention, detection and treatment of the disease.
