Amazon.com e-commerce iPad app goes public

Amazon.com released an e-commerce app for the iPad on May 12.

The app lets consumers search for products from Amazon and other retailers. The e-commerce giant released apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch in December 2008.

Consumers can use the app to access much of Amazon.com's functionality, including package tracking, personalized recommendations, customer reviews and movie trailers.

The app is available for free at Apple's iPad app store.

Sam Hall, director of Amazon Mobile, said in a statement that Amazon “used our customers' feedback to help us build a fun and intuitive shopping destination on the iPad.”
