Amazon Picks Lightning Source

Print-on-demand firm Lightning Source Inc. will provide fulfillment for e-book orders on Amazon.co.uk, serving the United Kingdom, and Amazon.de, serving Germany.

Lightning Source will deliver digitized books for customers who order e-book downloads at either Amazon site. The printing firm also will deliver e-book fulfillment for Amazon.com's Japanese site, scheduled for launch later this year.

Terms of the contract were not released. Lightning Source, La Vergne, TN, already provides e-book fulfillment and print-on-demand services for Amazon.com's U.S. customers.

In March, Lightning Source picked up a contract to deliver print-on-demand services for publisher Harper Collins. Under that contract, Lightning Source prints electronically stored books ordered by Harper Collins customers.
