Akamia Makes Two Technology Deals

Akamai, Cambridge, MA, said yesterday it signed separate deals with RealNetworks and Virage to increase its streaming audio and broadband services.


The agreement with RealNetworks, a streaming audio company, expands on an existing agreement where Akamai had been using the company's RealSystems G2 product for some streaming audio. RealSystems G2 will now be used across all Akamai servers.


Akamai agreed to make a $3.5 million investment in Virage and will use the company's search engine for its video indexing and searching.
