Airline to Test Tray Table Ads

Some marketers will have a captive audience for their advertisements starting Dec. 15 when America West airlines begins testing tray table ads on its flights.

The concept came about through the Tempe, AZ-based airline's partnership with SkyMedia International, Las Vegas, the firms said in an announcement this week.

So far, Mercedes-Benz USA, Bank of America and The History Channel have signed on to test the medium. The first ads appear Dec. 15. Only one advertiser may appear per plane.

According to SkyMedia, America West will be the first U.S. airline to launch tray table ads.

"With an average domestic flight time of 2.5 hours, our advertisers will be able to achieve a level of penetration, impact and recall unmatched by virtually any other medium," Nick Pajic, president of SkyMedia International, said in a statement.
