Airborne Raises Rates Starting Jan. 6

Airborne Inc., Seattle, will begin phasing in rate increases Jan. 6, the company said yesterday.

Airborne's rates for its 10:30 a.m., Express AM, Next Afternoon and Two-Day service will rise an average of 3 percent. The increase will average 4 percent for International Express and 3.9 percent for Airborne Ground and airborne@home.

The increases apply to customers not under rate guarantee contracts. Comparable increases for customers with contractually guaranteed rates would be phased in as their existing contracts are renewed.

Airborne also will increase several other fees. The Delivery Area Surcharge will rise to $1.75 from $1.50; the Residential Delivery Fee to $1.35 from $1.25; and the Saturday Pickup & Delivery fee to $12.50 from $10.
