Airborne Express to Raise Rates

Airborne Express said yesterday that it will begin phasing in general rate increases for its domestic shipping products Jan. 2.

Airborne's rates for Overnight Express, 10:30 Urgent A.M., Next-Afternoon, Second Day Service and International Express will rise an average of 4 percent. Rates for Ground Delivery Service and airborne@home will rise an average of 3.5 percent.

The increases will be applied to individual customers not under rate-guarantee contracts. Increases for those customers will be phased in as the contracts are renewed.

Seattle-based Airborne also will add a $1.25 residential delivery fee and $1.50 delivery area surcharge fee to its air express services. These fees already exist for its Ground Delivery Service.
