Agency.com Named for Visa's Online Makeover

Visa International has named Agency.com, New York, to redesign its Web site and extend the payment franchise's brand across interactive channels worldwide.

The agency is charged with helping develop and implement Visa's international e-commerce efforts. The size of the account was not disclosed nor details of the agencies involved in the pitch.

The world's leading payments franchise, Visa's branded cards generate more than $1.6 trillion in annual volume. The cards are accepted at nearly 20 million locations.

In the first phase, Agency.com will change the look and feel of the site, at www.visa.com, for an early 2001 relaunch. Then it will completely redesign the architecture of the site for a debut by fall 2001.

As part of its task, Agency.com will create online projects tailored to local language and region.

Founded five years ago, Agency.com also counts as clients such traditional brands as Heineken, Reuters, Compaq Computer Corp., Colgate-Palmolive Co. Bank of America, 3M and British Airways. Revenues last year were $109 million.
