Ex-Epsilon Agency Services chief Zain Raj today announced that he has acquired a majority stake in the market research firm Shapiro and will form a new "insights and ideas" company to be called Shapiro + Raj.

Founded in 1955 by Leo J. Shapiro, the firm is known for its execution of social and behavioral science methods pioneered at the University of Chicago. Its clients over the years have included Coca-Cola, McDonald's, Kimberly-Clark, and Wrigley.

"Most marketers today are suffering from information overload, drinking from the fire hose of data coming at them, much of which is siloed within disparate pockets of their organizations," Raj, who will serve as CEO of the new firm, said in a statement. "We formed this new entity to help marketers integrate this data and deliver insights and big ideas by pairing behavioral dimensions of market research with the latest in analytical capabilities."

Raj was most recently CEO of Epsilon Agency Services. Earlier, he was CEO of Euro RSCG Discovery and also served in leadership positions at FCB, JWT, and Grey.
