CNBC Europe signed on to be the official broadcast partner for the 2004 Cannes Lions Festival, organized by Britain's International Advertising Festival Ltd.

The deal lets CNBC Europe broadcast live reports, interviews and a special Power Lunch Europe from the annual advertising gala held in Cannes, France. Coverage will run June 22-25.

Cannes Lions never has had an official broadcaster.

"Many of the most prominent figures from within the advertising industry will be in Cannes, using the festival to make announcements and comments about one of the bellwether business sectors in the global economy," Rick Cotton, president and managing director of CNBC Europe, said in a statement. "As such, the festival is a natural magnet and focus point for our audience."

Meanwhile, Arnaud Lagardere, chairman/CEO of the Lagardere Group, will receive this year's Media Person of the Year Award at the festival. The honor recognizes a leading media personality for leadership and vision.

Lagardere, whose 231-title company publishes Elle and Marie Claire, will get the award at the Media Lions and Lions Direct ceremony June 22 in the Kodak Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.
