Applied Semantics Debuts AdSense

Applied Semantics Inc., an applications provider for unstructured data management, launched AdSense, a pay-for-performance interactive advertising serving product.

AdSense will target portals and online news publishers, letting them boost cost-per-thousand impressions. The product will match Web pages with advertisements from up to 20,000 ad categories.

"It enables us to get significantly higher click-through rates because we're serving targeted advertisements," said Jason Liebman, vice president of sales and business development at Applied Semantics, Los Angeles.

AdSense will process the portal or publisher's Web page, search for key themes and concepts, and map them back to related ads in the inventory of 25,000 ads. It integrates with any online ad media type and size. Existing ad displays can be replaced without redesigning or reformatting the Web pages.

The company said AdSense is available in implementation options like banners, towers, frames and pop-ups.

Applied Semantics works with search engine marketers like FindWhat, About.com's Sprinks and Kanoodle, acting as a distribution channel for the ad inventory of these firms.

Liebman thinks AdSense meets an urgent market need.

"Average CPM in online advertising has come down from $45 to $2, and online publishers are looking for new products and technologies that will help them better monetize their content and stay profitable," he said.
