The American Advertising Federation announced the addition yesterday of five industry luminaries into its Advertising Hall of Fame.

Hall "Cap" Adams Jr., retired chairman/CEO of Leo Burnett Company Inc., was honored for leading growth at the Chicago agency. Phil Dusenberry, former chairman of BBDO North America, was recognized for his creative contribution over two decades.

On the media side, John H. Johnson, publisher and chairman of Johnson Publishing Company Inc., becomes a Hall of Famer for pioneering African-American consumer marketing and for starting Ebony and Jet magazines.

Posthumous awards went to David Sarnoff, chairman and president of RCA, and Dave Thomas, founder of fast food chain Wendy's International. Sarnoff, who died at 80 in 1971, was one of the key media executives to shape the commercial broadcast system. Thomas died last year.

The recipients will be officially inducted at an award luncheon March 18 at New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. So far, 162 people have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since it debuted in 1948. Recipients this year were selected from among 27 candidates.
