Academy Debuts for Ad Students

The organizers of the International Advertising Festival, also known as the Cannes Lions, have begun a training and educational program as part of the event's golden jubilee celebrations.

Called the Lions Academy, the program is open to students studying advertising, marketing, communications and design, the London-based organization said.

An international class of 20 to 30 students ages 18 to 23 each year will be invited to attend the seven days of the Cannes Lions, arguably the world's most prestigious ad competition. Students will attend seminars, viewings of ads and tutorials. Executives from Saatchi & Saatchi, Wunderman and Universal McCann will teach this year.

A tutor will accompany the students. This year's chaperone is Clive Challis, head of the advertising course at Central Saint Martins, London. A dean, nominated every three years, will head the academy. Michael Conrad, former worldwide chief creative officer of Leo Burnett, is the first dean.
