Advantage Marketing Systems, Oklahoma City, yesterday announced it had ceased negotiations to purchase Universal Nutrition Corp., a direct marketer of health and diet products.

Advantage signed a letter of intent to purchase UNC in October. But the companies were unable to reach a final agreement and the sale was canceled.

The companies did not reveal what caused the breakdown in negotiations.

UNC, Norcross, GA, markets products via direct mail, infomercials and the Internet. The company had projected $35 million in sales this year with more than $5 million in profits before taxes.
