ActiveNames Expanding to Europe, the Far East

E-mail change of address service ActiveNames Inc. plans to expand into Europe and the Far East and establish data centers, the company said yesterday.

The New York firm is creating ActiveNames Europe and ActiveNames East to customize its consumer service to the local markets and house its data in these markets.

The company also said it is negotiating with major corporations in these regions to possibly operate or own the data centers. ActiveNames expects to have deals in place within six months and possibly as early as next month.

"Now ActiveNames can provide global businesses [with] a model service by customizing its consumer e-mail change of address service to local markets while providing complete assurance that it complies with all international laws that limit data exchange," said David Mimran, president of ActiveNames.

ActiveNames said that setting up divisions in Europe and the Far East was necessitated by international privacy laws that prohibit local personal data from being stored on servers outside the country.
