Ace Is the Place For Teradata

Hardware retailer Ace Corporation said this week that it is using Teradata's retailDecision software to drive profitability and customer retention.

Teradata's retailDecisions analyzes data in five categories: assortment management, promotion management, customer buying behavior, store operations and labor, and intelligent e-commerce. Ace employees access the service via desktop, web or wireless.

Teradata's two-terabyte data warehouse supports Ace's "Vision 21" initiative to drive retailers' revenue and customer satisfaction.

"The Ace enterprise data warehouse will move from the current limited desktop deployment to a full Web-based application able to track, analyze and report the impact of Vision 21," said Mike Altendorf, vice president of information technology for the Oak Brook, IL-based hardware retailer.

Ace employees and retailers using the system can ask retail and wholesale data questions at any time, Altendorf said.

Ace selected Teradata because of its proven retail track record in data warehousing, he said.

"That experience, including customer relationship management, inventory management, category management and business intelligence made Teradata the right choice for us," he said.

Teradata's retail clients include The Gap, Applebees, Walmart, and JC Penney.

Ace Hardware Corp., a $13 billion hardware cooperative, is wholly owned by its 5,100-plus hardware, home center, lumber and building materials retailers.
