Less than a month after losing the key SC Johnson & Son global advertising account to BBDO and Ogilvy & Mather, Draftfcb Chicago said August 16 that it will reduce its staff by approximately 10%. The agency's global workforce will be cut by 3%.
SC Johnson & Son has reassigned its global advertising account after a decades-long relationship with Draftfcb. The Racine, Wis.-based company hired BBDO for advertising for its pest-control and home-storage divisions and Ogilvy & Mather for ad duties for its fragrance and home-cleaning units.
Euro RSCG has reassigned former New York office co-CEO Pete Zillig to a position in Europe, the agency confirmed May 26. Jeff Brooks will serve as Euro RSCG New York's sole CEO, reporting to Lee Garfinkel and Matt Ryan, chairmen of Euro RSCG. The agency also said that it has eliminated some staff as part of the restructuring.
Greg Andersen, CEO of BBH New York, said at the Mirren New Business Conference on April 11 that his agency had lost its last 10 pitches in a row, but added that unsuccessful pitches can serve as learning tools to improve product and revenue initiatives. He added that agencies should be more concerned with creating new revenue streams and products than with the amount of new business they sign.
The US Army has retained McCann Worldgroup as its agency responsible for a full range of advertising and marketing services including direct marketing. The agency's new contact will begin April 7, said Dan Elkins, deputy for public affairs at the Army's Mission and Installation Contracting Command.
Dell has hired agencies Sid Lee and Arnold to work on its consumer and small- and medium-sized business marketing, respectively. Their work will "absolutely" consist of "direct elements for all business units," said Bob Kaufman, Dell spokesman.
The Georgia Department of Economic Development has selected integrated agency Engauge as its marketing and advertising AOR after a five-month review. Engauge had served as the organization's digital AOR since 2006. The agency will handle all of the department's advertising, digital, sponsorship and media planning and buying work.
Consumer packaged goods company S.C. Johnson has reportedly put advertising duties for its global brands up for review, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Draftfcb Chicago currently works with S.C. Johnson on a number of its brands.
