Abacus, AZ Direct Provide Tools to German Catalogers

Abacus, a division of DoubleClick Inc., New York, announced the formation yesterday of Abacus Deutschland in partnership with AZ Direct, a subsidiary of arvato AG, the internationally networked media service provider of Bertelsmann AG.


The joint venture will provide Abacus' Acquisition Modeling and Retention Modeling products to German catalogers for prospecting and customer retention, DoubleClick said.


Abacus Deutschland will contain transactional data to be used in proprietary modeling techniques.


The Abacus Alliance cooperative database in the United States consists of 1,800 retail and catalog companies with 100 million households and more than 3.7 billion consumer transactions. The UK Alliance has 300 companies and 18 million households. Abacus also opened Abacus Japan KK, a wholly owned subsidiary, in July.
