A Change at the Top for Sears Canada

Sears Canada said yesterday that it fired chairman/CEO Mark A. Cohen because of "strategic differences over the future direction of the business." At the same time, the company named Brent Hollister president/CEO.

A 35-year veteran of Sears Canada, Hollister's most recent title was president and COO. During his time with the company, he has held several leadership positions, including president of sales, head of the catalog and online business and national merchandise manager.

The company also appointed Glenn Richter, executive vice president and CFO of Sears, Roebuck and Co., chairman of the Sears Canada board.

Growth and improved bottom-line performance will be two of Sears Canada's imperatives as the company moves forward, Richter said in a statement.

"Improvement will come through a focused, integrated plan to enhance our core department stores and a comprehensive off-mall strategy that leverages Sears Canada's tremendous product and brand strengths," he said.
