Redcats sells missy group to private equity firm

Redcats USA has completed the sale of its missy division, which includes Chadwick's, Metrostyle and Closeout Catalog Outlet, to Monomoy Capital Partners, a private equity fund. Redcats USA, a division of French retail holding company PPR SA, originally announced its intention to sell its missy apparel business earlier this year after acquiring United Retail Group, which includes almost 500 Avenue stores.

Sears looks to social network for back-to-school campaign

Sears' back-to-school campaign this year has a bigger social networking push than in previous years, including YouTube, Facebook and MySpace tie-ins. "Expanding our marketing strategy into the online world of user communities and social networking is a critical means of developing engagement and brand loyalty within the youth demographic," said Richard Gerstein, SVP and CMO at Sears, in a statement.

Overstock.com has partnered with three other companies in an effort to make its overall site experience, and particularly its search function, more user-friendly. The online retailer has partnered with Omniture Inc., Bazaarvoice and Mercado, using integrated solutions from the three companies through Omniture Genesis to employ a strategy the company calls "searchandising"—the usage of on-site search terms, user-generated product reviews and analytics to optimize product merchandising and relevance for site users.
