Sears latest retailer to lose bank funding

Sears Holdings Corp. has joined the list of retailers receiving bad news from the financial community. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday, Sears revealed that the Bank of America had advised the multichannel merchant it would not renew an existing letter of credit agreement under the current terms.
 

Lord and Taylor names CMO

Roger Adams, previously the CMO at The Home Depot, has been named to the newly created position of SVP and CMO at Lord and Taylor. Adams' duties include brand management, creative and media services, consumer relationship management, market research, consumer insights, Internet marketing and sales promotion. He will report to president and CEO Jane Elfers.
 

Talbots renegotiates payment terms with vendors after losing bank funding

The Talbots Inc. is the latest multichannel merchant to become a victim of the financial industry's growing wariness of funding retail operations. However, Talbots quickly responded, by renegotiating terms with its vendors and said these arrangements are expected to be sufficient to fund the company's working capital needs under its 2008 operating plan.
 

No sweat for new Lyris partner

American Apparel, a multichannel retailer of sweatshop-free clothing, has launched a push to make its e-mail marketing more personalized. The retailer, which manufactures all of its goods in its Los Angeles headquarters and markets direct to consumers as well as to wholesalers, is using the Lyris ListManager to power its global newsletter program in a move to make the e-mails more relevant.

Hot Topic turns to Alliance for branded card services

Hot Topic Inc. has tapped Alliance Data Systems Corp. to provide credit and marketing services for its Torrid-brand apparel stores. Per the agreement, Alliance Data will provide private label credit card services, which include account acquisition and activation, card authorization, issuance of private label credit cards, statement generation, receivables funding and remittance processing.

Citing consumer interest in "green measures," the company decided to stop printing and mailing its 270,000 yearly catalogs, said Karen Wallerich, director of eStore and marketing for ELuxury, in an e-mail interview.
