Yahoo reports Q2 results

Yahoo reported almost $1.8 billion in revenues — a 6% year-over-year increase — for its second quarter ending on June 30. Yahoo also reported $131 million in net income, or 9 cents per diluted share, for its second quarter in 2008, a decrease compared to $161 million, or 11 cents per diluted share, in second quarter of 2007.
 

Google reports Q2 results

Google reported $5.37 billion in revenue for its second quarter ended on June 30. "Traffic and revenue have held up well despite uncertain economic conditions," said Eric Schmidt, Google CEO and board chairman, during a July 17 conference call.

By 1999, that figure had jumped to 3 million. Today, Google processes hundreds of millions of searches each and every day. If this is a staggering number, consider that behind each and every search query is a set of consumer data, and it is access to this data that puts Google into a league of its own.
 

PC World adds off-site reviews

Tech publisher PC World, whose product reviews have long been a major staple of its content, is adding links to comparisons and expert and user reviews from other publications, sites and blogs. PC World partnered with electronic product comparison site Retrevo in the venture. Under the agreement, PC World is selling advertising programs for the Retrevo Web site, in addition to the content sharing.
 

Google debuts Ad Planner

Google has released a new media-planning tool called Ad Planner that connects advertisers with publishers. Wayne Lin, business product manager at Google, spoke of the tool's benefits at the ARF's Audience Measurement 3.0 today in New York.
 

Datran Media acquires Top-Colleges.com

Online marketing firm Datran Media has acquired Top-Colleges.com, formerly a division of AffiliateCrew.com, for an undisclosed amount. New York-based Datran, an e-mail service provider, ad networking and database firm, acquired the higher education search engine in an effort to further develop its lead generation offerings.

Real estate Web site Zillow.com and a group of newspaper companies are expected to roll out a previously announced program this week enabling local advertis­ers that buy ads with the newspapers to also place their listings on Zillow. News­papers participating in the Zillow deal will also be able to use Zillow's real estate content on their own sites.
 

Upromise adds Mall Networks to shopping services

College-savings service Upromise is now using Mall Networks 3.0 to make its online shopping mall more user-friendly and engaging. Mall Networks, a provider of merchant-funded loyalty programs, is offering personalized comparison shopping and enhanced search on the Upromise site.
 

MySpace spam suit settled

News Corp.'s social networking property MySpace has reached an agreement to collect $6 million from Scott Richter and his Web marketing company, Media Breakaway LLC, for allegedly spamming its users with unsolicited advertisements. The charges originated in January 2007.
