Sun Microsystems Inc. is set to acquire MySQL AB, a developer of open source database software for approxi­mately $1 billion. Open-source database software is used by companies such as Google Inc., social networking site Facebook Inc. and Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia Corp.
