Quad/Graphics cuts 100 jobs

Printer Quad/Graphics laid off 100 of its employees on August 13. The employees were primarily based in the Sussex, WI, plant and mostly in administrative positions, though manager of corporate communications, Claire Ho, said some were in production support positions.
 

Cox aims to divest Valpak, some newspapers

JCPenney has launched the JCP Rewards frequent shopper program, enabling members to earn monthly $10 certificates. The program enables customers to earn reward points and receive special members-only benefits by shopping with JC Penney either in-store, online or by catalog.
 

USPS cuts employee hours in response to mail volume loss

Due to initiatives to reduce work hours and overtime, compensation expenses for the US Postal Service dropped by $247 million — or about 2.5% — in the third quarter compared to the same period last year, according to a financial report that the USPS has filed with the Postal Regulatory Commission.
 

Macy's to develop customer segmentation models

Macy's Inc. has signed an agreement with consumer insight firm DunnhumbyUSA to analyze Macy's customer sales data, develop customer segmentation models and work with Macy's to apply the learnings to accelerate future sales growth.
 

Return Path to acquire Habeas

E-mail deliverability firm Return Path Inc. will acquire its competitor Habeas Inc. for an undisclosed sum. Under the terms of the agreement, Habeas will be absorbed into the Return Path brand and integrate its e-mail reputation management and deliverability services under the Return Path name. The companies began discussing the transaction in May.
 

Food & Wine to serve up a 25,000 rate base increase

Food & Wine magazine is raising its rate base from 900,000 to 925,000 as of its January 2009 issue.The increase marks the glossy's first since 2002, when it went from 800,000 to 900,000, and coincides with a 4.5% increase in newsstand sales for the year.
 

Charter seeks customer loyalty in points program

Charter Communications, a cable, Internet and telephone provider, rolled out a national customer loyalty program this month, "Live it with Charter." The program offers customers the opportunity to earn points by using Charter products and services, or by shopping at an online mall created by Mall Networks.

MySpace enters debates fray
