3 Dead in Reported Murder-Suicide at Empire Blue Cross

Three employees of Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield were killed yesterday morning at the company's midtown Manhattan office in an apparent double murder-suicide shooting.

News reports said police are investigating whether the shooting resulted from a love triangle.

Former FBI agent John H. Harrison, 53, identified in a news report as the assistant vice president for fraud investigation and detection, committed suicide after killing two colleagues following what police said was apparently a romantic dispute. They were Isabel Munoz, 36, a principal investigator, and Vincent LaBianca, 34, manager for fraud investigation and detection.

Empire occupies part of the ninth, as well as all of the 10th, 11th and 12th floors at 1440 Broadway between 40th and 41st streets near Times Square.

The company issued a statement yesterday saying that it is helping the New York Police Department with the investigation. The company's offices were closed immediately after the incident.

Empire's fraud division moved into the building after the destruction of the World Trade Center. Nine of the 1,914 Empire Blue Cross employees who worked at the World Trade Center died in the terrorist attacks last Sept. 11, as did two consultants.
