2.7 Million Austrians Online

While 2.7 million Austrians are online at home or at work, representing 40 percent of the population, only 6 percent reported that they regularly make purchases on the Web. Austria, with more than 7 million people, is Europe's third-richest country.

The Austrian Internet Monitor released a study at the end of last month showing that 850,000 new users had gone online last year. Home use of the Web has increased, with one-third of households having computers with Internet access.

AIM also claimed that 2 million Austrians were regular surfers and that the country ranked behind the Scandinavian countries in Internet usage but ahead of the United Kingdom, France and Germany on a percentage basis.
