1-800-Flowers Revenue Grows 6.7%

1-800-Flowers.com Inc. posted revenue of $95.2 million yesterday for its fiscal 2004 first quarter ended Sept. 28, a 6.7 percent increase from $89.2 million in the prior-year period.


Online revenue rose 19.9 percent to $48.9 million compared with $40.8 million in first-quarter 2003. Telephone revenue for the quarter reached $40.4 million versus $42.5 million in the prior-year period, down 5.1 percent. Online revenue increased to 54.8 percent of combined online and telephone revenue, compared with 49 percent in the prior-year period.


The company also said that it reduced its net loss for the fiscal 2004 first quarter by 29.5 percent to $5.1 million, compared with a net loss of $7.3 million in the prior-year period.


It gained 484,000 customers in the first quarter, about 61 percent of whom came to the company online. About 1.2 million customers placed orders in the period, of which 58.3 percent were repeat customers, up from 56 percent in first-quarter 2003.
