1-800-Flowers Q2 Revenue Hits $213.2M
Sales were in full bloom for 1-800-Flowers.com Inc., Westbury, NY, as it posted record revenue of $213.2 million for its fiscal second quarter ended Dec. 28, representing growth of 8 percent compared with $197.4 million in the prior-year period.Online revenue increased 20 percent to $90.9 million from $75.8 million in the second fiscal quarter of 2003. Telephone-generated revenue reached $113.4 million, down slightly from $114 million in the prior-year period.
Sales of its high-margin home decor gift items came in below expectations, and the company's gross profit margin for the quarter was 44.9 percent compared with 45.6 percent in the prior-year period.
It attracted 1.2 million new customers in the quarter, 48 percent of whom came to the company online. About 2.3 million customers placed orders in the period, of which 48.6 percent were repeat customers, up from 46.9 percent in the second quarter of fiscal 2003.
