'05 Trade Mission to Scout UK, Germany, Eastern Europe

A group of direct marketing, publishing and e-commerce professionals is set to head out on a trade mission Feb. 20-25 that will focus on Great Britain, Germany and Eastern Europe.

Members of the 2005 United States Trade Mission to Europe For Direct Marketing will visit London and Warsaw and will be hosted by Bertelsmann in Germany. The mission chose to explore Germany, Great Britain and Eastern Europe because a growing number of U.S. companies are expanding to these markets, said Bill McNutt, trade mission director.

Mission members will meet privately with government officials, European Community representatives, European mail-order companies and direct marketers. Stops in each country will feature presentations from local experts on topics such as mailing lists, privacy, payment methods, databases, media, shipping, postal issues, tariffs, e-commerce and taxes.

Bertelsmann is Europe's largest broadcaster. It owns Random House publishing; operates the BBC America channel; and owns a magazine publishing company and half of Sony-BMG. JourneyEd, a direct seller of software to students, will co-host the visit with assistance from the German Direct Marketing Association and the American embassy and consulates.

Mission members will be guests at the London International DM Fair, Europe's largest direct-marketing conference. British Telecom will host a mini-seminar.

The mission is the 15th such trip led by McNutt. For more information, contact him at 214/443-9494 or billmcnutt@charter.net. This year's mission is limited to eight companies.
